Aircon Keeps Tripping

We received a phone call on a Sunday afternoon. The weather was quite humid. We sensed an urgency on the other side of the call, asking for help on their air conditioner. “What’s the problem with it?” we asked. The customer replied that their aircon unit turned on for a while and stopped. It kept tripping but the power switch near the compressor was still on. The rest of the aircon unit were okay and there were no electrical problems that caused the main circuit breaker to trip.

We called Ed, our experienced aircon specialist, who was scheduled for due maintenance near town on Sunday. He said he got some time and ready for another deployment. He went and reached within an hour.

Ed opened up the aircon cover and found the pan was filled with water. Ed asked the owner if they have done an aircon cleaning lately. The owner said that he got some other contractor to do it a week ago. It looks like the previous contractor did not clear the drainage pipe properly and caused the air con pipe to choke.

With the aircon’s built in safety device, it will stop the aircon system operating or else the water will leak from the air-con’s fan coil. Some old aircon models do not have this feature. Hence, they will normally start leaking from the front of the fan coil. So Ed drained out the water in the aircon pan and cleared the aircon pipe. Then Ed function tested the aircon fan coil in front of the customer before he left the premises.

Now a bit more on the side talk here. We really do not recommend that the customer take the cheapest aircon servicing in Singapore. Their service tends to work on speed because labour is expensive. They would do a simple cleaning job and forgo any proper checking.
